Albet i Noya Curiós Tempranillo is a red wine produced by Albet i Noya in the D.O. Penedès. The winery was founded in 1979, and has been pioneer in organic cultivation in Spanish viticulture. The region is home to a Mediterranean climate, i.e warm and mild, characterised by long and hot summers with cold and dry winters.

Albet i Noya Curiós Tempranillo, previously known as Albet i Noya Clàssic Tempranillo, is made exclusively with the Tempranillo variety, taken from 8.5 hectares of the wineries own vineyard. The vineyard is planted on soils poor in organic matter, with clay, sandy and limestone content.

In regards to the winemaking process, after the grapes have been destemmed, maceration is carried out for 8 days, and fermentation for 6 days at a controlled temperature of 22ºC. There is then oxidative racking and light filtrations before the wine is finally bottled.

Albet i Noya was, among other things, the first national winery to make organic wines. In 1978, Josep Maria Albet i Noya represented the Unió de Pagesos in the Regulatory Council of D.O. Penedès, when a Danish company addressed the D.O. looking for a producer of organic wine. At the time, there were no organic producers in the entire state, and the Council discussed the issue with Josep Maria, a strict vegetarian. From then and until this day, his wines are the paradigm of the strictest organic production and, undoubtedly, one of the most exciting innovations of Penedès. It has positioned itself on the market, with boutique wines made in a modern way, with a characteristic and personal Mediterranean style.
Pictures and situation Albet i Noya
Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
