The trend to re-find the value in native grape varieties is a growing reality in the world of wine. Closely linked to a specific region and its winemaking history, these grapes allow producers to express the identity and authenticity of their place of origin. This is a movement that helps preserve an area’s wine and cultural heritage and contributes to offering consumers a varied and exciting taste experience. Antonio Capaldo, president of the prestigious Feudi di San Gregorio wine group, has been one of the greats responsible for promoting Campania (Italy) with local varieties like Greco, Fiano and Aglianico. At the Tenute Capaldo project, he gives free rein to experimentation with a single goal: to achieve premium products that reflect the region.

This is how Tenute Capaldo Gulielmus Taurasi Riserva was born, a wine named after San Guglielmo (Gulielmusin in Latin), who was responsible constructing the Goleto abbey in the 12th century and who, like this white stone monastery, is a symbol of Irpinia. Made with grapes of the native Aglianico variety from just 2 hectares, they are cultivated following traditional principles and the grapes are harvested by hand when they reach optimum ripeness. Then, in the winery, after an exhaustive selection of the best grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel and maturation in oak barrels for 24 months. Finally, the wine spends another 24 months in the bottle before being sold.

As a result, Capaldo presents Tenute Capaldo Gulielmus Taurasi Riserva, a premium DOCG Taurasi Riserva wine that, with an iconic name, reveals the magic and light of a unique territory.

On the palate, it presents a robust yet approachable structure, with flavors that mirror its spiced and fruity bouquet, and a concentration that promises to evolve with grace. Its finish is enduring, leaving an impression of balanced maturity harmonized with the fruit's vivacity.

Tenute Capaldo Gulielmus Taurasi Riserva 2017 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red fruits, accompanied by balsamic notes, toasted nuances and mineral hints. The palate is warm, full-bodied and vigorous. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity, integrated tannins and a long, spiced finish.
