About Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Moganazzi

Talent and vision transcend borders. Marc de Grazia, a native of Italy’s Piedmont wine region, became a true pioneer by championing the revival of Mount Etna wines in Sicily in the early 2000s, when the vineyards were virtually worthless. Mount Etna, with its unique volcanic soil and challenging environment, was not exactly the most sought after place for viticulture at the time. However, Marc de Grazia saw extraordinary potential in this forgotten wine region. He championed vineyards that, at the time, cost almost nothing, and he worked tirelessly to revive the winemaking tradition in this volcanic land. His vision and dedication paid off because, today, the wines made at his Tenuta Delle Terre Nere winery and those from Mount Etna in general are acclaimed around the world for their unique character and exceptional quality.

On the prestigious northern slopes of Mount Etna, specifically on the best ‘cru’ or contrada (as it is known in Italian) he makes wines like this Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Moganazzi. A cuvée made from the native Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mascalese grape varieties planted in volcanic soil, with altitude and the radiance of the Mediterranean sun. The vines are cultivated respectfully, and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. The grapes are then immediately taken to the winery where they are carefully sorted and divided. Fermentation is carried out in round wooden vats at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Proving that sometimes it is necessary to take risks and defy expectations to discover hidden gems, Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Moganazzi is a red wine from the DOC Etna Rosso whose distinctive character reflects the unique characteristics of the Mount Etna terroir. Wonderful elegance, complexity and minerality that capture the essence of the volcanic earth.

Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Moganazzi 2021 is a complex red wine with an intense bouquet of black fruit accompanied by iodised notes and hints of wood. On the palate it is dense, full and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with refreshing acidity, silky tannins and a long, lingering and mineral finish.
