Yet, beyond the illustrious, there lie hidden gems offering delectable wonders waiting to be uncovered. In Calabria, a region located at the "toe of the boot" of the Italian peninsula, the Scala family has nurtured a passion for winemaking for over two centuries. Their dedication to crafting exceptional wines from indigenous grape varieties is palpable in every sip, noted for their balance, structure, and sophistication. Today, Luigi Scala, the latest scion of this distinguished family, continues the legacy bequeathed by his forebears, producing distinguished wines that capture the unique essence of Calabria.

Among the wines crafted on their estate, Scala Francesco Cirò Bianco is a single-varietal wine made from the indigenous greco grape. This white wine from the DOC Cirò is produced from 18 hectares of vineyards owned by the family, situated on clay soils. The vines, which are certified organic, are cultivated and harvested by hand. In the winery, the grapes are promptly transported, meticulously selected, and gently pressed. Subsequently, the extracted juice ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures with native yeasts. Finally, the wine matures on fine lees for 3 months before it is ultimately bottled.

A child of the Mediterranean, Scala Francesco Cirò Bianco is an exceptionally expressive wine. Sun, salt, and freshness beautifully mirror a viticultural region that, while not the most famed, harbors immense potential yet to be revealed.
