In the wine region of Swartland (65 kilometres north of Cape Town), there is a question that Mullineux has been striving to answer for years: to what extent can soil alter the character of a wine? To uncover this, the winery crafts a collection of chenin blanc from various terroirs. Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc is arguably the most delicate and precise interpretation among them.
 
The grapes for Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc originate from a single vineyard planted in Paardeberg over forty years ago, with roots delving into deep, decomposed granite soils. Cultivated dry-farmed and bush-trained, without irrigation, these vines, planted more than 40 years ago, endure the climate thanks to their deep roots and a broad canopy that shields the clusters from the heat, promoting a slow ripening and preserving a vibrant natural acidity.
 
In the winery, Chris and Andrea Mullineux adhere to the same minimal intervention philosophy that has established the estate as one of South Africa's leading references. The harvest of Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc is conducted manually during the early hours of the day, and the bunches are pressed whole directly into French oak barrels. Both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur spontaneously, without commercial yeasts or other additives, followed by several months of ageing on the lees in the same barrels.
