Mas Coutelou Classe is a natural, organic and vegan red wine made by Mas Coutelou with the Syrah, Carinyena and Garnacha Tinta varieties in the south of France, in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Mas Coutelou is home to Jean-François Coutelou, a young winegrower whose work is revolutionising the winemaking world of southern France. Taking local varieties, organic agriculture and minimal intervention as his starting point, he produces, as he says himself, “happy wines from vines grown with love and joy.”
The vines where the Mas Coutelou Classe grapes come from have been certified organic since 1987 and they grow alongside a rich biodiversity with animals, vegetables and minerals. The vines are planted on clay and limestone soils around the village of Puimisson, near Béziers, influenced by the sea breeze from the Mediterranean and the freshness from the north. The yield is limited for maximum concentration in the grapes and the harvest is carried out manually.
To maintain the authentic character of the wine, the Mas Coutelou Classe grapes lead the way, and they are vinified with minimal intervention. Firstly, they spontaneously ferment with native yeasts and at the end, the wine it is bottled by gravity, without filtering and without adding sulphites.
As in all wines made by Jeff Coutelou, Mas Coutelou Classe is different every year because the winemaking process varies depending on the vintage. However, although it has been made with completely different vines and varieties on several occasions, the result is always surprisingly delicious.
