About Gut Oggau Joschuari

Gut Oggau Joschuari is a natural Blaufränkisch variety red wine produced by Gut Oggau in Neusiedlersee-Hügelland (Burgenland).

The winery, located in the small Austrian town of Oggau (Burgenland), is known for making an impressive family of natural wines with a face and eyes. Each of the labels features a member of the winery’s fictional family tree. The creators, Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe have put work into creating a unique personality for each of them. They use biodynamic agriculture with minimal intervention in the winery.

The Gut Oggau Joschuari grapes come from vines that are around 35 years old and planted in limestone and shale soils. Having been abandoned for more than 20 years, the new winemakers were able to certify them as biodynamic straight away. No pesticides or chemicals are used. Only natural and organic treatments are applied. The harvest is carried out manually.

The Gut Oggau Joschuari grapes are partially destemmed and they macerate for 7 months with their skins. Alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in oak vats. It ages for 20 months in 500-litre oak barrels. Once the wine is made, it is bottled without refining, filtering or adding sulphur.

Gut Oggau Joschuari is a red wine that combines a body that gives maturity with the intensity offered by the rich fruit. The bottle is designed with an image of the father figure of the family.
2012 Gut Oggau Joschuari 2012 is a concentrated red wine with a complex nose of mineral notes, tobacco and leather. The palate is structured and reveals the freshness of the live fruit. It has a long finish.
