About Domaine Gayda Villa Mon Rêve

Numerous scientific studies have shown that nature and green spaces have a positive impact on people’s physical and mental health, including those who are ill or recovering. More and more hospitals and healthcare facilities are creating natural and green environments to provide a pleasant and more therapeutic environment for patients. The first owner of the Domaine Gayda vineyard in Languedoc (France) saw great curative potential in the place and, for that reason, had a house built to offer his ailing wife an ideal place to recover. Her recovery was so good that in appreciation of the place they named their house “Villa Mon Rêve” (the villa of my dreams).

In homage to these first owners, Tim Ford and Anthony Record, the current owners of Domaine Gayda, make a wine under the estate’s old name, the fruit of a vineyard they have been working in for more than 10 years to create the wine they dreamed of. Domaine Gayda Villa Mon Rêve is a blend of Syrah and Grenache from an idyllic vineyard at an altitude of 250 m above sea level on limestone. They work organically and respecting the natural environment as much as possible. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand and immediately taken to the winery. There, one-third stay in whole clusters and two-thirds are destemmed without crushing to then ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. In addition, light pumping-over and pigeage are carried out during a maceration that lasts 4 weeks. The wine then ages for 20 months in 2000-litre oak barrels with no racking. Finally, it is bottled without clarifying or filtering and rests for 12 months in the bottle before being marketed.

The result is Domaine Gayda Villa Mon Rêve. A wine dreamed up by its owners, who were inspired by the idyllic surroundings offered by the estate and, in particular, by the vineyard the fruit comes from.


 

2018

Domaine Gayda Villa Mon Rêve 2018 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red fruit accompanied by notes of cedar and hints of undergrowth. On the palate it is smooth, elegant and well structured. A medium-bodied wine with well-integrated acidity, velvety, sweet tannins and a long, lingering finish.
