About Baroni Di Pianogrillo Flaneur
In the heart of southern Sicily, Pianogrillo stands atop a hill surrounded by cypress trees and olive groves. It is no ordinary estate: in the Middle Ages, it served as a watchtower against Saracen pirates, and centuries later, it became an elegant manor house with a chapel and underground cellars. Indeed, it is a slice of history with a view.
As if that weren't enough, it is located right next to the archaeological site of Akrillai, a place so ancient it seems plucked from a legend. The estate still retains oil mills from the 3rd century and a Paleo-Christian necropolis. Here, the past intertwines with the present at every turn.
For more than three centuries, Pianogrillo belonged to the barons Piccione di Grassura and Molino d’Immezzo. Today, the heir of the lineage, Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo, has decided to breathe new life into the family history: transforming the estate into a modern and vibrant ecological project. First, he captivated half the world with his extra virgin olive oil, and now he is doing so with wine.
One of his great successes is Baroni Di Pianogrillo Flâneur, a 100% grillo that embodies Sicily in every aspect. The grapes are cultivated at nearly 500 meters altitude, in clay and limestone soils, and are vinified with care: gentle maceration, fermentation in steel, and a few months on fine lees to enhance body and freshness.
The result is Baroni Di Pianogrillo Flaneur, a luminous, saline, and characterful wine, combining the Mediterranean breeze with the elegance of an estate that has been observing the passage of time from its hill for centuries.
