About Milsetentayseis La Peña Rosado

“Fine wine in a delicate glass, served by a woman's hand” is more fashionable than ever, and in a world that has historically been male-dominated, female winemakers are gaining increasing prominence. These highly skilled professionals are taking on more significant roles in this sector every day. One such individual, Patricia Benítez, has brilliantly shaped the fascinating project of Alma Carraovejas, Milsetentayseis. This winery, as its name suggests, operates at high altitude in the Burgos town of Fuentenebro, approximately one thousand metres above sea level, with the aim of restoring the landscape's prominence in a region with a rich winemaking tradition.

This is how Milsetentayseis La Peña Rosado is introduced to us, a wine hailing from an extraordinary historic plot of just 0.46 hectares. The soils, composed of red clay, quartz, feldspar, and mica, host old vines of around 100 years of the native varieties albillo and tinto fino. With an extremely harsh climate in the Ribera del Duero, the grapes ripen very slowly and with utmost care. The harvest is done manually in 12-kilogram boxes, and once in the winery, the grape clusters are gently pressed separately to obtain the purest essence of each variety. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, and then the wine ages for 7 months in French oak barrels in contact with its lees.

With a limited production of just 800 bottles, Milsetentayseis La Peña Rosado is a rosé wine born from altitude, cold, and old vines. These extreme climatic conditions, under the stewardship of Patricia Benítez, not only make it an oenological gem but also a testament to the potential and skill of women in modern viticulture.

2021

Milsetentayseis La Peña Rosado 2021 invites you to revel in its sophisticated salmon hue. On the nose, it unfurls a delightful array of ripe strawberries and raspberries, accompanied by a hint of sweet pepper and delicate notes of dried flowers, such as rose petals. On the palate, this rosé presents itself as full-bodied and flavourful, with a pleasing integration of its spicy notes. The finish is long, surprising with a refreshing salinity that lingers on the palate. This wine is ideal if you seek a rosé with character and complexity, standing out for its balance between the freshness of the fruit and the subtlety of its spicy nuances.
