About Matsu El Recio

Matsu El Recio is a red wine produced by the winery Matsu in the DO. Toro.

It represents a contemporary venture that is committed to organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Matsu El Recio is crafted entirely from the Tinta de Toro grape variety. The grapes are sourced from carefully selected vineyards aged between 90 and 100 years, with a very limited yield.

Biodynamic agriculture is employed in the vineyard cultivation: natural cycles are observed, minimal intervention is practised, and pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides are avoided. Notably, the sandy soils and low humidity of the region reduce the necessity for such products. During production, the must undergoes fermentation for 3 weeks in 15,000-kilo tanks. Subsequently, a malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels.

In the same barrels, Matsu El Recio undergoes 14 months of ageing, after which the wine is not subjected to any filtration and is clarified using only natural, non-aggressive processes.
