About Mas Llunes Cypsela Rosé

Legends, shrouded in magic, captivate us, so when we encounter one, it is impossible to resist. Such is the case of the enigmatic Iberian city of Cypsela. Although its exact location and the circumstances of its disappearance remain a mystery, the story of Cypsela lives on in the imagination of many. Mentioned by the 4th-century writer Avienus in his poem "Ora Maritima," it is said that this city stood opposite the Medes Islands on the Costa Brava (Catalonia). And although we cannot be certain if it truly existed, the myth of Cypsela continues to enchant the region. So much so that even Mas Llunes, the winery located in Garriguella, within the DO Empordà (Girona), has created a wine bearing its name, with the intention of keeping this fascinating legend alive.

A family-owned winery established in the year 2000, on its estate Mas Llunes possesses 45 hectares of highly varied vineyards. The soils of different compositions allow for the production of very distinctive wines. Specifically, Mas Llunes Cypsela Rosé is a single-varietal wine made from red garnacha grown on slate soils and touched by the Tramontana (a strong northern wind typical of the area that helps prevent the development of harmful microorganisms on the grapes). It is organically farmed, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal point of ripeness. Once at the winery, after a meticulous selection, the destemmed bunches macerate with the skins for 8 hours. Afterwards, the must is transferred to stainless steel tanks and fermentation begins at a controlled temperature for about 20 days. Finally, the wine is filtered, stabilized at a low temperature, and bottled.

Being a fresh, expansive, and persistent rosé, Mas Llunes Cypsela Rosé is a toast to the history and mystery of Cypsela. A wine where each sip transports us to a time and place full of charm.

Mas Llunes Cypsela Rosé 2023 is a young, pale rosé wine that stands out for its freshness. On the nose, it reveals floral aromas of jasmine, orange blossom, and gardenia, accompanied by citrus notes reminiscent of lemon and tangerine. On the palate, it is fresh and expansive, with a pleasant persistence that invites continued enjoyment. Only 2,500 bottles of this vintage have been produced, making it an exclusive gem for rosé enthusiasts.
