About L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla

L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Bobal variety by Bruno Murciano in the DO Utiel-Requena.

Bruno Murciano, one of the most prestigious sommeliers in the country, set up a winemaking project with his brother Jose Luis. They work to showcase the native varieties that grow in their village, Caudete de las Fuentes (Valencia), and they make a trilogy of wines using the Bobal variety, among others. These are fresh, elegant and very unique wines.

One of them, L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla comes from a 7.5 hectare plot. These are old vines aged over 80 years old and planted in clay soil 900 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using organic and sustainable agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually and in small 10 kg boxes before the grapes are ripe.

When the L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla grapes reach the winery, they are cooled to 4oC. They are then gently pressed and transferred to old concrete cement tanks to ferment with native yeasts. They stay there for two to three months, without pump overs. Finally, the wine ages for 9 months in 500 litre barrels and 9 more months in the bottle.

L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla is one of the three single-variety wines that Bruno Murciano has made to showcase the Bobal variety at its most elegant. A light, fresh and fragrant wine in full Burgundy style.
2016 L’Alegria Bobal Cepas Viejas Arcilla is a juicy red wine with aromas of red fruits, fresh floral notes and a background of Mediterranean undergrowth. On the palate it is light, fresh and fruity. It has a good acidity and a long and persistent finish.
