About Ktima Tselepos Nemea Driopi

Aristotle’s famous quote "In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous” suggests that our ecosystem is an unending source of beauty, and that there is always something new and amazing to discover in it. Yiannis Tselepos, one of today’s most iconic figures in Greek wine, shares this view and his work is closely related to the land and nature. Although his vineyards are not certified organic because he thinks this is all dogma and he would rather use his own mind to make good decisions, Yiannis advocates sustainability in everything he does. Clearly stating that “nature shows you what it needs” he believes in conscience, responsibility and rational observation.

Under the slogan “the estate produces good wines, but the vineyard produces fine wines”, he pays special attention to his vineyards, which are located in three of the country’s most representative wine regions: Mantinia, Nemea and Santorini. His Ktima Tselepos Nemea Driopi is a wine made in Koutsi, in the Nemea region of the Peloponnese. This is a single-variety Agiorgitiko planted on clay-limestone soils at 350 metres above sea level. In total connection with his vines, Yiannis works using organic principles and through his intuition he provides the plants with what they need. In the winery, he uses a classic vinification process with a long maceration of 25 days. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts at a controlled temperature and then the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (70% new and 30% in barrels that have been used for two wines) and a further 6 months in the bottle before being released.

With more than 40% of production exported abroad, the wines produced at Ktima Tselepos are a great introduction to the wines being made in Greece today. Wonders of nature like Ktima Tselepos Nemea Driopi, a rich, smooth red wine with excellent aging potential, are proof of this.

2018

Ktima Tselepos Nemea Driopi 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine exuding profound aromas of red berries, complemented by nuances of dried fruits and hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is dry, smooth, and velvety. This medium-bodied wine boasts well-integrated acidity, refined tannins, and a lengthy, spiced finish.
