About Forlong Rosado

Sometimes destiny is concealed within a mere play on words. At the close of the 19th century, a British merchant by the surname Furlong became enamoured with the light and allure of El Puerto de Santa María, bestowing a name upon an estate that eventually evolved into a phrase laden with intent: for long time, to remain for a lengthy period. Decades later, Rocío Áspera and Alejandro Narváez embraced this legacy with the conviction that the land of Cádiz deserved to be nurtured with the reverence of yesteryear. Thus was born the Bodega Forlong, a free-spirited and artisanal venture where organic life has once again flourished among the vineyard rows. 

From El Puerto de Santa María, in the heart of the Cádiz region and under the geographical indication Vino de la Tierra de Cádiz, Forlong Rosado emerges from the iconic estate of Palma de Altamira. The tintilla de rota vines boast a mature age of 50 years, deeply rooted in albariza parda soils, a type rich in organic matter and calcium carbonate that imparts a unique minerality and retains the moisture of winter rains. The climate is characterised by a strong Atlantic influence, with mild winters, warm summers tempered by the sea breeze, and the constant breath of the levante and poniente winds, ensuring a slow and balanced ripening. Adhering to an unwavering commitment to the environment, viticulture is conducted under a philosophy of ecological cultivation, respecting biodiversity and performing all tasks by hand to preserve the health of the vine.

The production of Forlong Rosado is distinguished by delicacy and precision at every stage of the process. The harvest is carried out manually, seeking optimal phenolic ripeness, that is, the precise point of balance where the grape skin and pulp have reached full maturity. In the winery, the saignée method is applied, where the contact between the must and the grape skins is minimal during the gentle pressing to obtain solely the purest and most aromatic fraction of the juice. Subsequently, the must is placed in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 12 °C to undergo alcoholic fermentation, maximally preserving the primary fruit aromas for 25 days. Following this period, the wine is racked or transferred to another tank along with its fine lees in suspension, the inactive yeasts that remain in the liquid, imparting creaminess and natural protection before its final resting.

Forlong Rosado is a fresh, subtle, and profoundly evocative wine, where the nuances of wild red berries, floral hints, and the saline imprint of the albariza meld into a silky palate. The irrefutable proof that great stories, like great wines, are crafted with patience to endure in memory.
