About Château La Chenade

Brilliant. Wonderful. A real luxury.

With this letter of introduction it’s difficult to resist La Chenade, one of the most popular and renowned Bordeaux wines made by the famous and acclaimed winemaker Denis Durantou. At the present time, after his death, part of his legacy is in the hands of his daughters, who (accompanied by winemaker Olivier Gautrat) continue to produce this red wine at A.O.C. Lalande-de-Pomerol.

La Chenade came into existence many years ago, when Denis Durantou (who already managed Château l'Eglise-Clinet ) decided to add to his properties a small parcel of vineyards in this area north of Pomerol, very close to the Dordogne river. What he had found there was rich, deep, clayey and gravelly soils, with a cool climate where Merlot is mainly grown (along with other varieties). In short: a small spot, unique in the world, where you can find some of the most important and acclaimed owners on the right bank of Bordeaux.

Harvest, fermentation and barrel aging are the fundamental steps followed by La Chenade in its production. No more, no less. It’s well known that virtue lies in simplicity.

The quality of this wine is surprising... as is its price, a bargain not to be missed. With this resume, it’s not surprising that it’s one of the best-selling Bordeaux wines. A real gem.
