About Calalta Mentelibera

Since 2017, Nicola and Giulia Brunetti have been dedicated to their Azienda Agricola Calalta, where they produce entirely organic wines. Here, they have experimented with uncommon grape varieties that are not typical in Mussolente, in the northern region of Italy, in Veneto; however, this has not hindered them from obtaining the finest grapes imaginable for crafting Calalta Mentelibera. The riesling from Germany and the bronner from Belgium join the native vespaiola in this white wine, which uniquely showcases the terroir of this winery. 
 
At the foot of Mount Grappa, between the provinces of Vicenza and Treviso, lie the five hectares of vineyards where these varieties thrive. The vines, situated between 150 and 200 metres in altitude, are on a steep slope composed of sandy and rocky soils, where red clay is also abundant. The cultivation is entirely organic, always managed with minimal intervention, allowing the ecosystem to self-regulate and achieve its own balance. Human intervention is only necessary during the harvest, when it is time to pick the grapes at their optimal ripeness. 
 
Calalta Mentelibera is harvested manually in plastic crates and taken to the winery, where they are manually selected again on a sorting table. Once the finest batch is chosen, Calalta Mentelibera is gently pressed and transferred to stainless steel tanks where it ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Finally, Calalta Mentelibera remains in these tanks for less than a year, being bottled without filtering or fining. 
 
Perhaps crafting a wine in this manner is not the easiest, but "it is the only way to produce honest wines with a strong character." Calalta Mentelibera is the perfect testament that when passion and determination are combined, the result can be unparalleled.
