Biga Crianza 2023 is a contemporary, fresh, and captivating red wine, blending the vibrancy of fruit with the warmth of sophisticated oak. On the nose, one detects clean blackberries and red cherries, with subtle hints of leather, spices, and vanilla that add depth without losing lightness. On the palate, it is gentle and succulent, with a medium body and soft tannins, exuding a freshness that makes it vibrant and a fruity finish that lingers delicately. About Biga Crianza

Biga Crianza is a red wine from the Rioja region and produced by the Luberri Winery. The winery was founded in 1991 by Florentino Martínez Monje, who came from a family of farmers from Elciego, and his wife.

The climate in Rioja alavesa is continental with a mediterranean influence. During the winter months, cold winds from the north are softened thanks for the Sierra de Cantabria which acts as a natural barrier.

This wine is made solely from Tempranillo (100%) grapes which are taken from vineyards situated 400-600 metres above sea level on poor soils composed of,clay and limestone. This results in a low yield but a high quality. The 29 hectares belonging to Luberri spread through the municipalities of Elciego, Laguardia, La Puebla de Labarca and Villabuena of Alava.

The viticulture that occurs in these vinyards is 100% environmentally friednly. The harvest takes place depending on the ripeness of the grapes, and they are not picked until the correct moment.

As for the production, a traditional method is followed. The process begins with a carbonic maceration, with whole bunches being put into the tanks. Following this, the juice goes through an intracellular fermentation, which  enhances the aromatic intensity range. Finally, the wine is then aged for 12 months in barrels of French and American oak.

On the palate, it is lively and elegant, with a flavour profile where vanilla, wood, and smoke stand out without overshadowing its refreshing fruit acidity. The subtle notes of aromatic herbs evoke the character of the vineyard of origin.

Biga Crianza 2020 captivates us with its harmonious balance of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and strawberries, interwoven with refined hints of vanilla and black pepper, a testament to its maturation in oak barrels. On the nose, it unfolds scents of leather and fine woods that enhance the fruit's vivacity. Upon tasting, it is approachable and light-bodied, with a delightful acidity that accentuates its flavor intensity. This subtly spiced red wine gradually unveils its intricate layers with each sip.
2019

Biga Crianza 2019 is a robust and intense red wine. Exhibiting a medium-bodied cherry hue, it presents a nuanced and fruity bouquet on the nose, with delicate scents of fresh fruit, leather, spices, and timber. On the palate, it is light and approachable, exuding freshness. Incredibly easy to sip. It is both elegant and refined. 
2012 On the palate, it is light, crisp, and pleasantly approachable.

It boasts a medium-bodied cherry hue.

The bouquet is intricate, revealing scents of fruit intermingled with hints of fine wood. Accents of leather and spices are also present.
2010 A red wine with a very elegant and pleasant palate. Even if the aromas provided during the ageing stand out (vanilla, wood and smoke), its aromas keep its fruity acidity. At the same time, some hints of aromatic herbs are noticed, which remind us of the vineyards from which it is issued. Long and very nice finish.

Ruby red colour with maroon edges. Clean and very bright. Abundant tears.

Crispy and clean nasal aromas with a high intensity. Its notes of fresh and clean red fruit stand out along with the aromas provided during its ageing: leather, spices and fine wood. Very pleasant and balanced wine.
