About Bardos Moradillo de Roa

When they started their project they had two options: the easy way or the hard way. And the Bardos winery made the brave choice. They laid the foundations of their project in the Páramo de Corcos, at an altitude of 1,000 metres and with extreme weather conditions. And although no one said it would be easy, their hard work has been rewarded with very good wines. And of all of them you can’t miss Bardos Moradillo de Roa (and we really mean it).

The old vineyards (over 80 years old), pebbly soils (with clay substrates), and a climate of strong contrasts (where only the toughest vines survive) are the key ingredients in this coupage of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Albillo, Bobal, Monastrel and Graciano. In principle, these varieties respond well in this kind of climate, because extreme contrasts are quite good for red grapes, enhancing their colour and aromas. Raúl Acha, the winery’s technical director, is in charge of all of them. He also ensures that everything is done correctly in the winery: manual work (always maintaining the utmost respect for the grapes), native yeasts, aging in selected French oak barrels and making wines without filtering or clarification.

After Bardos Moradillo de Roa has fermented, it is macerated for three weeks at a temperature of 28°C and also undergoes malolactic fermentation (in European oak vats). From here Bardos Moradillo de Roa is racked to other vats, also made of European oak, where it ages for 12 months. Not everyone is capable of making a red wine like Bardos Moradillo de Roa. And not everyone is capable of tasting it either. What do you think? Will you like it?
