About Salta Muros Tinto

Passvinho is not your typical wine fair, nor is it a showcase of big names with solemn speeches and raised glasses as if everything has already been decided. It represents something different—more intimate, more human, more genuine. It is a gathering of small independent producers who share a simple yet powerful idea: to nurture the land, craft the wine by hand, and grow together without losing their soul along the way.

Among them are Catarina Bento and David Prata from Salta Muros. They do not come from traditional wine families or bear surnames with a long history in the industry. They arrived at the vineyards of a family estate in Miuzela, in Beiras (Portugal), a small village 800 metres above sea level, by the Côa River, and there they began to forge their own path.

The location does not make it easy, nor does it intend to. Old vines, blends of varieties that even the locals cannot always identify, small plots bordered by stone walls, forests, and pastures. A fragmented, almost wild landscape, yet full of memory.

In this land of Beira Alta, the soils are granitic and sandy, and the vines are often over 50 years old. This, combined with a significant diurnal temperature variation and a slow budding process, results in wines that are light, fresh, almost ethereal, easy to drink but never lacking in character.

Salta Muros Tinto encapsulates their philosophy perfectly. It originates from those ancient plots in Miuzela, with traditional blends of local red varieties such as rufete and bastardo, hand-harvested and crafted with minimal intervention in the winery.

The vinification process is simple in concept but highly precise in sensitivity: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, gentle macerations to avoid over-extraction, and an ageing period of about 10 months in barrels, without seeking to mask the fruit or its origin.

Nimble, fluid, and with a very distinct identity, Salta Muros Tinto perfectly reflects what Passvinho aims to highlight: small projects that work with integrity, listening to the land and allowing it to set the pace.
