About Les Forques

Each year, the Catas por Parejas competition, organised by Vila Viniteca (alternating annually between Barcelona and Madrid), establishes itself as a pivotal event in the wine world, with Toni Carbó and Ramon Jané among its most notable figures. This duo has demonstrated extraordinary skill in the art of wine tasting, carving out a place of honour in the competition. With an admirable track record, they have reached seven finals, secured two second places, and emerged as champions in the 11th edition of 2018 and the 16th edition of 2024, a testament to their profound oenological knowledge. Beyond competitions, Toni and Ramon also excel in their respective roles in Penedès (Catalonia). For Ramon Jané, under the brand Mas Candí, since 2006, he has pursued an oenological path that honours his grandparents' legacy in Gunyoles d’Avinyonet, at the foot of the Massís del Garraf Natural Park. A passionate advocate for native grape varieties, his sustainable approach and commitment to quality are evident in each wine he produces.

His wine, Les Forques, is a blend of monastrell, cabernet sauvignon, sumoll, and mandó sourced from vines planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel. The agriculture is organic, employing biodynamic and organic treatments. Harvesting is done at the optimal moment of ripeness, and once in the winery, the grapes undergo cold maceration in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation extends over a period of 20 days with daily pigeages and indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to 300-litre French oak barrels, where it remains for 12 months before being bottled, without fining or stabilisation.

Les Forques clearly reflects Ramon's dedication and passion for the land and its traditions. His respectful approach to viticulture, combined with his profound oenological expertise, alongside his friend and colleague Toni, makes them an unbeatable team, both in competitions and in the wine world.

 

2022

Mas Candí Les Forques 2022 is a fruit-forward red wine. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries, accompanied by hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it is spicy with notes of candied fruits, showcasing its mature tannins. Its profile is smooth and easy to enjoy.
