About José Pariente Finca Las Comas

Las Comas, a vineyard in the DO Rueda, has been showcasing its potential for over a century. Specifically, it is a small plot in La Seca, planted in 1910 and cultivated using the bush vine method. Here, the old verdejo vines thrive on limestone and stony soil, which has become the hallmark of a wine crafted solely in exceptional vintages. From this mere 2.43 hectares emerges José Pariente Finca Las Comas, a white wine with a very limited production, designed to reveal one of the most profound facets of verdejo. Furthermore, since 2019, this vineyard has been certified organic. 
 
The harvest of José Pariente Finca Las Comas is conducted manually in 20 kg boxes. In the winery, each cluster undergoes a second selection before being subjected to a 12-hour maceration at a low temperature. The aim is clear: to preserve the identity of a grape that, in this location, has much more to convey than mere freshness and fruitiness. The production of José Pariente Finca Las Comas continues unhurriedly. The wine ferments and remains for months on its own lees in a 2,250-litre foudre, where it gains volume, depth, and an extraordinarily creamy texture. The time and the vessel enable the verdejo to reveal a different character here: broad, saline, and elegant, with perfectly integrated intensity.
 
José Pariente Finca Las Comas is evidence that Rueda can compete at a higher level. A verdejo from century-old vines, produced only when the vintage warrants it, with fewer than 3,000 bottles for those who understand that some bottles are not meant to be consumed hastily.
