About Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte

Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte is an organic red wine made with the Cabernet Franc variety, and produced by Domaine de la Butte-Jacky Blot.

La Butte translates as "The Hill", and is the name of the estate from which the grapes with which this Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte is produced come from. It has 16 hectares of alluvial soils located on the most beautiful south-facing slopes on the right bank of the Loire, in the Bourgueil denomination, in France. Not only is landscape impressive, but so also is the location of Domaine de la Butte, the huge Jacky Blot winery, which is carved out of the rock.

Jacky Blot bottles its Cabernet Franc separately, depending on the location of the vineyards. In this case we’re talking about Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte, which is made with La Pied vines, the strains at the base of the hill. The vines are cultivated without applying insecticides and eliminating any chemical additives, and are harvested completely by hand.

At Domaine de la Butte-Jacky Blot they supervise the preparation of this Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte meticulously, resulting in a somewhat light but complex Cabernet Franc, with just the right amount of acidity to refresh, and with that note of pencil shavings characteristic of Cabernet Franc wines from the Loire. In short, a sincere and typical Bourgueil red.

2019

Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte 2019 is a smooth red wine with a nose of red fruit under a smoky background. On the palate it’s fine, sweet and somewhat tannic. A wine with a defined structure and an acidity so well integrated that you’ll want to repeat.

2018 Domaine de la Butte La Pied de la Butte 2018 is a young red wine that is concentrated and smooth with silky tannins, with fine aromas of blueberries, currants and cherries, and with that note of "pencil shavings" that characterises the wines of the Loire. Red fruit predominate on the palate and are rounded off with touches of cocoa and spices, with a refreshing acidity. It is the living expression of Cabernet Franc grapes when ripe, but without their peppery note.
