Features
The new wine of San Cristobal winery is pure elegance and reflects the long tradition of the family (hence its name, Raíces, roots in Spanish) and the soil of the region of Ribera de Duero. A luxury of a wine.
It is made of grapes from 28-35 year-old vineyards planted on 7 different soils and located at about 800-900 m altitude. They are manually harvested and selected. After a long fermentation and maceration, a partial malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels. No clarification or filtration are conducted. Finally it is aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels of light and medium toast. It was bottled in March 2010 and left to rest until November 2011.
Very limited production: 5,000 bottles.
Very good wine for ageing.
Color
Intense cherry red colour, with intense trims. Clean and bright. Dense tear.
Nose
Intense and complex nose where the powerful notes of ripe fruit come along with the expressive smoky and roasted notes of the lees on a mineral background.
Flavour
Ribera del Duero wine with a very large and powerful attack. It has velvety, very sweet and expressive mid palate. Its roasted notes emerge over the nuances of fruit. Round and well integrated tannins. Excellent acidity that provides freshness. Long and very persistent wine with a mineral aftertaste.
A wine to enjoy.
