Characteristics of Valdelosfrailes Pago de las Costanas

A great wine produced by this winery, which is part of the Group Matarromera. A single estate wine from vines aged of more than 125 years. The grapes are manually harvested and carefully selected. They go through a traditional winemaking process. It is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels and for 24 months in the bottle. Very limited production: 2,500 bottles. It is recommended to decant this wine an hour before serving it. It will finish rounding out in two years more and can be stored for the next 10 years. A red wine to be enjoyed slowly.

Tasting notes Valdelosfrailes Pago de las Costanas

Sight Intense and bright maroon colour with purplish reflections. Clean wine with a very high robe. Elegant tears. Nose Intense, clean and complex aromas. Its notes of ripe black fruit get mixed with emerging notes of exotic spices with  and some touches provided by the wood. When it opens up, the complex notes of fruit become stewed and get a touch of liquor. Many more spices are also released along with pleasant cocoa hints, tobacco, roasted coffee grains and creamy hints of oak on a subtle mineral background. Taste A pleasure of a wine! A wine from Cigales with a very wide and bulky attack in which it coats the mouth with the same feelings found in the nose but tastier and with a higher expressivity. It has a silky and elegant mid palate, a structured body and a great balance. Perfect acidity and sweet ripe tannins. Long and persistent finish with very pleasant sensations.

Winery Val de los Frailes

The D.O Cigales was until recently a region that produced wines that were defined by the rural and traditional nature of the region and its ancient history. The wines here were made using traditional techniques such as stone vats, treading the grapes by foot and fermentation left to the vagaries of nature. However, over the past two decades, the reality of wine here has become something very different. One only has to enter any of the of the regions renowned wineries to notice that their wines have taken the highway of modernity, shaking off their old reputation. The region has continued to produce rosés, although now juicier, fresher and well balanced. The region is also leaning ever more towards the production of red wines, following the example set by other regions along the Duero river, although perhaps with the difference that here they may be easier to drink.
