Bodegas Matarromera

Around 30 years ago, many wineries in the Ribera del Duero began to come out from under the shadow of the legendry Spanish winery Vega Sicília. Small, medium and large wineries began producing reds that aroused the passion of experts and international wine critics harvest after harvest. Over time big names and reputations began to forge. One of these was Matarromera, a winery founded back in 1988 in Valbuena de Duero, where there noble reds have been able to deliver year after year.

As in many other wine producing areas, Matarromera is a winery that owes its prestige to the efforts of its founders that have worked hard to keep and maintain two basic requirements: quality and personality.

Bodegas Matarromera is the flagship winery of the Matarromera group. It was founded back in 1994 in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, whose philosophy focuses on tradition, innovation and quality. This is the only wine group that is present in the 4 Designations of Origin surrounding the river Duero: The Matarromera, Émina and Rento wineries in Ribera del Duero, the Émina Rueda winery in Rueda, the Valdeosfrailes winery in Cigales, and the Cyan winery in Toro.

Carlos Moro, a Technical Engineer Superior Agronomist from Valladolid, is the founder and president of Matarromera. His family have been linked to viticulture and wine for numerous generations, pioneering in planting vineyards in Olivares and Valbuena de Duero. Carlos Moro was and is undoubtedly a visionary, a revolutionary of his time, but above all, a dreamer who in the late 1980s believed a saw in the potential of the Matarromera winery.
