The winery Finca Villacreces has a privileged situation at the heart of Ribera del Duero, known as La Milla de Oro ("The Golden Mile"). The vineyards together with centenarian pines and olive trees create an ideal landscape over a meander of the Duero River, with a winemaking history that has remained throughout the centuries.

HISTORY OF THE WINERY

The winery bears its name due to the Franciscan friar Pedro de Villacreces, who settled in those lands together with a group of priests in order to devote their lives to prayer and the growing of the land, a small vineyards which produced wine for the close monasteries until almost the 19th century, when the marquis Teodosio Alonso y Pesquera del Barrio acquired it.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Cuadrado family bought the property. Later, Peter Sisseck, a friend of the family, used the winery and the vineyard of the estate Finca Villacreces in order to produce one of the most renowned Spanish wines around the world: Flor de Pingus.

It was in 2004 when the current owners, Gonzalo y Lalo Antón, purchased the estate. In 2007, after a remodelling of the winery and a conscientious recovery of the vineyard, they inaugurated the winery Finca Villacreces again.

WORK PHILOSOPHY

Currently, Finca Villacreces owns 110 hectares, 64 of which are made up of Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines.

A special feature of the estate is the variety of soils that form it. Very sandy areas near the pines coexist together with very rocky lands, nourished by the sediments of the Duero River. A poor soil which causes a natural low yield of the vineyards.

Once inside the winery Finca Villacreces, we can check how all the winemaking process undergoes an exhaustive control of every single detail. An example of this is the selection process by which the grapes go through: a double selection table, where the grapes are firstly selected manually in order to go through a selection of the grapes using a ventilation system.

The grapes harvested in each one of the 15 plots which form the estate are treated separately and aged in French oak barrels.

WINES PRODUCED BY FINCA VILLACRECES

The result is the production of very soft, fine and detailed wines. From the little Pruno, the best Spanish wine for less than 20$ according to the American critic Robert Parker, to the gem of the winery: Nebro, a wine of minimum production which is only produced when vintages of extraordinary quality are obtained.
