History of the Winery.
When talking about Dominio de Pingus, it's impossible not to mention Peter Sisseck. Born in Denmark, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, he began his adventure in the work of wine at the start of the 80s at the side of his uncle Peter Vinding-Diers, a well-known oeonologist in the French region of Graves which was revolutionizing the production of white wines in the area.

In the middle of the 80s he went to California. He worked at Simi winery where he learnt production methods different to those he had experienced in France, with a lot of emphasis on technology and much manipulation of the grape.

At the start of the 90s Peter Sisseck arrived in Spain to take charge of the new winery Hacienda Monasterio, implementing new technologies unknown until then such as sorting tables for the grapes.

In 1995 in Quintanilla de Onésimo (Ribera del Duero) he created Dominio de Pingus, a small winery where he intended on recovering the painstakingly cared for traditional production method that he learnt from his uncle when he first started out in Graves.

And thus Pingus was born, one of the most desired wines in the world, which was first critiqued by an enthusiastic Robert Parker who declared it the best young white that he had ever tasted. (Young wine not in reference to its production, but to its young age).

The legend grew to become a myth, when the boat that was transporting the bottles of its first vintage to America sank. The majority of the bottles, which were already scarce, were lost forever, thus making Pingus one of the most sought-after wines in the world.

Work Philosophy.
Dominio de Pingus is a tiny, traditional winery with very low production. Every tiny detail of the winemaking process is attended to.

The grapes come from four small plots of old vines that range from 50 to 70 years of age. These vineyards have very scarce production and are situated in the towns of Pesquera and Roa, where the Tinto de Toro variety is grown.

Only the most excellent and ripe grapes out of those selected are used to make the wines, giving Dominio de Pingus wines a special character. They are powerful and concentrated with lots of ripe fruit.

The wines are aged in barrels from Darnajou cooperage in Bordeaux, known for making the best barrels in the world. 2 new barrels are used to make Pingus. After the malolactic fermentation in the first new barrel the wine is moved to the second new barrel where it ages.

Wines by the Bodega Dominio de Pingus.
Pingus has now become a true legend. It has extremely scarce production and is coveted and acclaimed worldwide. Its name is Peter Sisseck's nickname from when he was younger.

Elegant, complex and powerful, Flor de Pingus is a real jewel of the Ribera del Duero.

PSI is a great little brother. It differs to Pingus and Flor de Pingus showing a fresher and fruitier character.
