D.O.: Ribera del Duero
Bodegas Cepa 21, in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, is the most personal project of the third generation of the Moro family, who are the owners of the famous Bodega Emilio Moro, also in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. This winery strives to make modern wines, up to date with all the current trends of the increasingly more demanding market.
HISTORY OF THE WINERY
Bodegas Cepa 21 was created in 2007 by the Moro family, owners of one of the most emblematic wineries in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Bodega Emilio Moro.
The Moro brothers', José and Javier, aim has been to build a modern, functional winery drawing on the savoir faire acquired over the yeards by several generations of the Moro family in the making of modern-style wines.
Cepa 21's name pays testimony to the winery's search for the balance between tradition (Cepa) when cultivating the vines and making the wine and modernity (21st century) in terms of using the latest technology to make the production process as efficient as possible.
PHILOSOPHY OF WORK
Bodegas Cepa 21 has fifty hectares of vineyards planted with the highest quality Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines. The vineyards are planted with a clone selected from one hundred year old vineyards in Pesquera de Duero, situated at an altitude of between 780 and 850 metres.
Maximum respect is given to the soil. They don't apply mineral fertilizers; the only fertilizer used is mature sheep manure. No type of chemical herbicide is used either.
The harvest is carried out plot by plot and the grape bunches are analyzed, determining where the grapes from each plot will go and their oenological potential.
Upon arrival in the winery, the grapes are selected on the sorting table, throwing away any debris and defective bunches. The grapes are then destemmed, separating the grapes from the clusters.
Bodegas Cepa 21 has a spectacular semi-underground barrel cellar for ageing, with a capacity of over 2000 barrels.
BODEGA CEPA 21 WINES
