The DO Toro is located in the southeast of the capital city of Zamora and spread over the neighbouring province of Valladolid. The territory includes the natural regions of Tierra de Vino and Ribera del Duero, Ribera del Guareña et Ribera del Talanda.
Its vineyards are grown in deep, loose and sometimes rocky soils, with a low fertility and a generally gentle topography.
The continental climate of the region is extreme, with rainfall that reaches 400 mm per year, very cold winters, hot dry summers and high luminosity.
Toro red wines have become well known in the area. They are sturdy, well bodied and have a good alcoholic content. They are fruity when young, and throughout a moderate ageing in oak, they acquire a refined colour, a complex nose and smoothness in the mouth. A good example would be the Numanthia or San Román wines.
