Rueda is located in the south of the province of Valladolid were winters are very hard and dry with high heat stroke, which achieves a perfect ripening of the grapes and a high aromatic content in the skins. The vineyards lie on a very flat land, at an altitude of 700 m. The low fertility of these soils along with the low rainfall levels in the area contribute to a very low yield but with an excellent quality.
Verdejo white grapes, characteristic of this area, are at the origin of the great personality of these wines. In Rueda strong personality white wines are produced. They show pale colours, subtle and refined aromas and a fresh, large, serious and balanced palate with an elegant finish. This is the case of the Belondrade & Lurtón Verdejo Barrica.
Liqueur wines are also produced and aged in oak vats. These wines represent a real winemaking singularity. The regulations ratified in 2002, introduced red and rosé wines into this Designation as well.
