In the southern province of Lugo and north of Ourense, Galicia in the interior, accompanying aureo Sil from Montefur to its junction with the Minho in Peares and from there, tracing the course of this river to near Portomarín A number of small wineries succeed counties, constituting the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra.
Have sufficient ecological and viticultural elements common to constitute a designation of origin, the counties that comprise intrinsic peculiarities that justify maintaining their status as sub-areas defined. Following the river route mentioned above, we find the subzones: Quiroga, Amandi, Chant and Ribera del Miño, in Lugo and Ribera del Sil in Orense.
The vineyard, except in the subzone of Quiroga in the valley is more open, took the steep slopes (Ribeiro) of the embedded rivers, where it is cultivated in terraces of small size, often implausible, resulting in a wine that someone has qualified rightly, as heroic.
In these soils, often of anthropogenic origin, there is no uniformity, except for their common good fertility and acid reaction.
Predominate varieties, most notably the excellent Mencia, real cornerstone of the Ribeira Sacra wine, much less widespread and appear Brancellao Merenzao. As for shark Grenache, authorized a temporary basis is minor. The white minority, are represented by the excellent Godello Treixadura and Albariño, among others.
The most celebrated wines in the area are the reds of Mencia, young purple or maroon, intense and personal perfume which can be seen blackberry and raspberry aromas. Well made but elegant and light on the palate, with acidity and tight tannins, fresh and lively. In white single variety of interesting films are Albariño, Godello and Treixadura, intense and fruity aroma, fresh and tasty.
