Priorato

Fourteen towns in the south of the province of Zaragoza integrate the production area of this traditional and renowned Designation of Origin.
It is located in the foothills of the Sistema Ibérico Montains, at altitudes between 500 and 850 m above sea level. The area shows a soft orography, with low fertility soils, but with excellent permeability and health conditions. The climate is dry, with extreme temperatures, influenced by the cold and dry north wind.
The varieties traditionally cultivated are red Grenache, Mazuela and Juan Ibáñez among the red varieties and Macabaeo (or Viura) and Grenache Blanc within the white. In recent years, these varieties are being supplemented with Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Parellada (a white variety) which have allowed adapting the traditional production to the current consumer's tastes, substantially expanding the range of their wines.
The red wines elaborated in Cariñena cover the entire spectrum: joyful and fruity young wines with red-violet colours, tasty, broad and balanced Crianza wines, complex and elegant Reserva wines. However, the traditional production of high robe, robust, and high alcohol content red wines is still mantained.
