Characteristics of Raventós i Blanc Extrem

Raventos i Blanc Extrem is a white wine produced by Raventós I Blanc in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Barcelona, under the D.O. Penedés.

The Serral vineyard has a east-southeast facing orientation, and is cultivated and worked following the practises of biodynamic agriculture. The vineyard is divided up onto separate plots, with three different plots from different years used to provide the wine with different nuances.

Raventós I Blanc Extrem is pressed and undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged with its lees and is bottled without being filtered, nor stabilised with small doses of sulphur. This can result in a cloudy wine, but one that truly expresses the character of the variety.

Winery Raventós i Blanc

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, as well as those that demostrate instrisic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used!  But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from the Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, there is one common denominator of the wines from Penedès, and that’s balance and quality.
