Characteristics of QX Quatre Xarel·los

The new vintage of one of the best Xarel.los made in the Designation of Origin Penedés.
QX 2011 is a blend of Xarel.los from four old vineyards: Les Gunyoles (La Pura vineyard), Font-Rubí (Mas Rossell vineyard), el Pla del Penedés (la Angeleta vineyard) and Subirats (Cal Martí vineyard). The grape must ferments and ages for 8 months in four different types of barrel: Chestnut (bringing subtlety and helping preserve the concentration of fruit), acacia wood (bringing a citrus freshness), French oak (spices) and American oak (ripeness and intensity).

Tasting notes QX Quatre Xarel·los

Sight Pale honey colour with golden reflections. Clean and very bright, with a strong glyceric charge. Nose This white wine has a surprising aromatic intensity. An intense, complex nose full of nuances, white fruit, ripe yellow stone fruit, tropical and citrus notes, orange zest, floral aromas, jasmine and pressed flowers. Elegant toasted notes, powerful and intense smoky aromas and sweet spices gradually appear. Taste Excellent, broad and bulky attack with a rich flair. Unctuous, creamy and enticing on the palate, very good structure. Fantastic acidity, bringing definition, depth and freshness.

Sight Attractive straw yellow colour with golden reflections. Clean and bright wine with dense slow-falling tears. Nose A huge explosion of flavours! The notes of fresh and ripe yellow and tropical fruit and juicy citrus and its abundant notes of white fruit (apple, pear) are nuanced by the good roasted aromas, the abundant and elegant smoked notes, the abundant spicy touches, the nuts, the buttery notes and the highlighted touch of toffee. Finally, some notes of delicate herbs are noticed which freshen the set. Taste Wine with a very wide and enveloping wine, that coats the mouth with creamy sensations. The notes felt in the nose become very elegant and fleshy in the palate. Very balanced aromas with a creamy and very tasty mid palate. It shows an excellent acidity and a very long and persistent finish with a nice herbal aftertaste.

Winery Mas Candí

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, as well as those that demostrate instrisic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used!  But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from the Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, there is one common denominator of the wines from Penedès, and that’s balance and quality.
