Characteristics of Macizo

Macizo is a white wine from Catalunya prepared by the Vins del Masis cellar.

The winery is located in Olesa de Bonesvalls, in the Garraf Massif (Barcelona) and is the result of a bold new project by the historic La Rioja winemaker Benjamin Romeo, owner of the prestigious Bodega Contador. This winery can boast of having achieved 100 Parker points for two consecutive vintages.

Macizo is a complete blend made from native varieties Xarel·lo, Malvasia del Garraf and Garnacha de Tarragona, plus a small percentage of Chardonnay. The grapes come from vineyards planted in clay-limestone soils.

Developing Macizo begins with a manual harvest and subsequent transportation to the winery in small boxes.

After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, Macizo is aged for 8 months in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% used) with its lees.

A great white wine from Benjamin Romeo. If you like white with aging, you should try it.

Tasting notes Macizo

Sight Straw yellow with golden reflections. Clean and bright, showing an abundant tear. Nose Medium-high intensity, with aromas of ripe white fruit and tropical notes. A deep minerality and slight hints of nuts is perceived. Taste Fatty and consistent, with floral notes and minerals. Very good acidity. Long finish.
Sight Straw yellow colour with gold reflections. Clean and very bright. Abundant tears on the glass. Nose Medium-high intensity. An explosion of ripe white fruit aromas and tropical notes. Deep mineral notes as well as slight touches of dried fruit. Taste Similar to the nose, fruity with mineral nuances. Rich and consistent on the palate. Very good acidity. Long and persistent finish. A bulky, dense, rich white yet at the same time fresh, fruity and lively.
Sight A straw yellow colour with golden reflections. Clean and very bright, abundant tears show on the glass. Nose Medium-high intensity. A nice mix of aromas of ripe white fruit and tropical notes. A deep minerality is noticed as well as a slight touch of dried fruit. Taste Similar to the nose, fruit and mineral nuances are left in the mouth with a rich and consistent texture. Very good acidity. Long and persistent finish. A bulky, dense, rich white wine, yet fresh, fruity and lively.

Winery Vins del Massís

For many Catalan winemakers, the DO Catalunya is one of their best weapons for marketing their wines to the international market, since the image of their wine is significantly enhanced by a ‘Denominación de Origen’, which can certify a wines origin and quality. One of the initial positive effects is the fact that great wines are associated with a larger geographic area within the peninsula, in the same way as the Bordeaux region in France.  For many producers, the DO Catalunya is a clear sign of the regions commitment towards a model of quality. This is especially beneficial for Catalan wines that previously did not come under another ‘Denominación de Origen’.
