Jean Leon Vinya Palau is a red wine from the Penedès prepared by the Jean Leon winery. This wine is a varietal Merlot.

Jean Leon Vinya Palau uses grapes from vines planted in 1991 on calcareous clay and sandy soils.The grapes are harvested manually.

The grapes are fermented at a controlled temperature of 26º in stainless steel and then macerated for about 16 days.

Finally, Jean Leon Vinya Palau undergoes aging in French oak barrels for a year. Prior to marketing, the wine rests in the bottle for another six months.

The Jean Leon winery was founded in 1964. It is a tribute to the life of Jean Leon, a Spanish man who began working as a taxi driver in New York and ended up running a successful restaurant catering for the diverse personalities of Hollywood.

Tasting notes Jean Leon Vinya Palau

Sight Red bruised upper middle layer. Nose High intensity. Notes of ripe red fruits combined with toasted and spicy aromas of oak from aging. Floral notes upon the aftertaste. Taste Fresh and smooth entry. Enveloped and fleshy, long aftertaste.
Sight A dark cherry colour, high robe. Nose Intense. Notes of red fruit integrate well with a spicy, toasted backdrop. Taste Powerful attack. Perfect balance between its fine tannins and its elegant acidity. Rich, appetising and heady, with a long finish that leaves the wine lingering.
Sight Cherry red, lipid and good coat. Nose The nose is noted for its red cherry aromas pillory, blackberries and plums, with persistent lactic notes on a combination of toasted and roasted fruit of his upbringing in French oak barrels. Taste His entry into the mouth is powerful, with long development. Fat, full and fleshy, this is a structured wine with an elegant and long aftertaste.

Winery Jean Leon

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
