Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Reserva is a red wine from the D.O. Penedès made by Jean Leon. Behind this great wine we find a humble and exciting story that tells us about the life of Jean Leon, a Spaniard to ended up a big hit in Hollywood thanks to his restaurant.
Jean Leon departed from the French port of Le Havre as a stowaway on a ship bound for the United States. A sailor soon discovered him, but in an act of generosity, he decided to keep the young man's presence on board a secret. Vinya Le Havre is a tribute to an unspoken pact with a stranger who changed Jean Leon's life forever.

Turning to the wine, it is made with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. After fermenting in stainless steel vats this wine ages in French and American oak barrels for 18 months and then ages for at least two years in the bottle.

Tasting notes Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre

Sight An intense cherry red colour with bluish tones. Nose Aromas of jam, candied fruit and wild berries in addition to menthol, balsamic notes against a backdrop of toasty, spiced undertones (pepper, bay leaf and vanilla). Taste This wine stands out on the palate for its perfect structure which allows a smooth attack and a long finish, with toasted notes and spices and a touch of tobacco leaf. Exceptional tannins.

Winery Jean Leon

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, as well as those that demostrate instrisic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used!  But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from the Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, there is one common denominator of the wines from Penedès, and that’s balance and quality.
