Characteristics of Bru de Verdú

Bru de Verdú is a red wine from D.O Costers del Segre produced by Cellar Cercavins. This is a blend of Tempranillo and Syrah.

The climate is a Mediterranean climate with continental influences. The winters are gentle, summers at hot and rains are rare.

The grape for Bru de Verdú originates from vineyards that are watered only using rainfall. The soils are chalky and poor in organic material, which brings a higher aromatic concentration to the grapes.

Once in the winery the grapes are destemmed and pressed, then passing to a cold maceration process.

The must of Bru de Verdú is fermented in stainless steel containers at a controlled 26º-28ºC for up to a period of 35 days.

Once these processes are all finalised, the containers are emptied and the must is pressed.

In this last moment, Bru de Verdú is aged for 6 months in American, French and Hungarian oak barrels.

Celler Cercavins was founded in 2003 by three partners in the town of Verdú, in Lleida. This winery since its birth has been gaining international recognition.

Tasting notes Bru de Verdú

Sight Powerful red and clean. Medium-high body. Nose Complex and intense. Presence of black fruit with toasted and spicy aromas, characteristics of the ageing process. Touches of vegetables on a subtle smoked base. Taste Tasty and warm, notes of oak and fruity undertones. Good acidity and pleasant tannins. Long finish and a fruity aftertaste.
Sight

Red, very bright and clean. Upper middle layer.

Nose

The nose is complex with a pleasantly aromatic intensity. There are aromas of black fruit, blackberries, blueberries and plums, along with toasted and spicy notes from aging. You can also appreciate vegetation and a subtle smoky background.

Taste

The palate is rich, silky and warm. Notes of aging and fruit appear. Balanced acidity and savoury tannins. Long and fruity aftertaste.

Sight Dark picota cherry colour with a maroon rim. Clean and bright. Slow-falling tears stain the glass. Nose Clean and intense nose with very fruity aromas standing out. Ripe black fruit and alcohol intermingled with lightly toasted notes and subtle spices. Light vegetal notes and balsamic aromas appear in the background. Taste Powerful attack. Fleshy and dry on the palate with intense toasted notes, gentle spices and a delicate mineral touch. A good acidity refreshes the remarkably tannic set. Persistent finish leaving toasted and fruity sensations.
Sight Intense dark cherry colour with redish edges. Clean and bright wine with a slow-falling tear that stains the glass. Nose Very fruity aromas of ripe black fruit and licoriced fruit mixed with subtle toasted hints and subtle exotic spices. In the background, subtle balsamic and herbal aromas are also noticed. Taste Good, powerful and warm attack and a long, fleshy and dry mid palate. Its marked notes of fruit are released along with good toasted aromas, light spicy aromas and some delicate mineral touches. It has a light presence of alcohol and a good acidity that provides it with freshness. Noticeable but pleasant tannins. Lingering finish that leaves toasted sensations and aromas of toasted nuts.
Sight Ruby velvet, vivid, bright and sharp and dense tear.
Nose Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackberry, black plum), licorice and smoky toasty feeling, minerals, spices and balsamic memories (eucalyptus), breeding and finely final lactic acid. Taste Powerful, smooth and refreshing in the mouth, with average alcohol content, long aftertaste, soft tannins, memories of liquor and caramel, and presence of toasted wood (cedar).
Sight Ruby-velvet blue-yellow trim, lively, brilliant i potent tear maracas and tinted.
Nose Aromas of ripe dark fruit (blackberry, black plum), sensation of roasted licorice-smoked, minerals (cal) i spiced balsamic records (eucalyptus), parenting (mushroom, vanilla) i finely lactic final. Taste Powerful in the mouth, unctuous i refreshing with average presence of alcohol, long aftertaste, soft tannins envelope the palate, sweet liqueur remember, i presence of toasted wood (cedar).

Winery Cercavins

When we refer to the DO Costers del Segre we think of wines with a continental character, which in some respects is true, but extensive replantation of international grape varieties means that the majority of wines produced here lack a geographical or territorial trademark, even though the vast majority of the wines are technologically perfect. However, there are currently wineries such as Mas Blanch i Jové, Costers del Sio, L’Olivera, Lagravera and Thomas Cusiné, among others, who concentrate their effors on producing wines with what are considered varieties native to the region. However, the majority of this region is still dominated by classic international varieties.
