The Wine Advocate rates the Grenaches from Gredos

The Wine Advocate, a famous wine magazine from guru Robert Parker, has welcomed a new entry this November with Parker points for Spanish Wines.

On this occasion, Luis Gutiérrez, the hombre Parker responsible for the Spanish , Argentinian and Chilean wines, has written a review, among other denominations that we will discuss in future articles, about Grenaches from Gredos. Overall, Gutiérrez’ assessment leaves us with an excellent flavour on the palate.

We have had the opportunity to look at the Parker points for the Grenaches from Gredos, it is a production area without a recognised DO, which actually encompasses small wineries integrated from denominations such as Vinos de Madrid, Méntrida and VT Castilla y León.

Luis Gutiérrez was exultant after his review of old Grenaches from an altitude in Sierra de Gredos, planted in granite and slate soils. So much so that they qualify as world class Grenaches, half way between Châteauneuf du Pape and Côte de Nuits.

Among the wines from Sierra de Gredos with Parker points, the highlights were those made by the wineries Comando G, Daniel Landi and Uvas Felices that gained 8 out of 10 top-rated wines.

Wines like Cantos del Diablo 2012, Mujer Cañón 2012, both with 95 Parker Points, or Las Umbrías 2012 with 94 Parker Points, have made the top of the ranking, confirming the 2012 vintage is a great quality.

In the words of Luis Gutiérrez, “despite it having been a very dry and warm year, the result is wines that are a lot fresher than expected” because the vines stopped producing sugars due to water stress.

If you would like to try the quality of the wines from Sierra de Gredos, we suggest that you do not wait. Stocks are very limited!
