New Parker ratings for Bierzo wines

Some weeks ago, The Wine Advocate, the magazine that has been directed by Robert Parker for more than three decades, published new Parker ratings for Bierzo wines.

The publication of this article was highly expected since it contains the first critics written by the hand of Luis Gutiérrez, who replaced Neal Martin as the responsible for Spanish wine tastings, and who has a very deep knowledge of this winemaking region. Furthermore, there were more than two years since The Wine Advocate last publication on the wines from this area in Castilla-León.

The conclusions deduced from Luis Gutiérrez‘s visit to the region of Bierzo could not be more positive: great prospects, excellent ratings and new wineries which join the select group of wines rated with more than 90 Parker points.

The wineries Descendientes de J. Palacios, Raúl Pérez, Casar de Burbia and Castro Ventosa are those with the best privileged positions among the producers of wines in the DO Bierzo, since the ratings reached range from 94 to 97 points.

If we make a review of the ratings of those Bierzo wines available on our website, the great rating awarded to Moncerbal 2010 must be highlighted: a remarkable rating of 96 Parker points has been awarded to this gem by the winery Descendientes de J Palacios. From the same winery, it is worth highlighting the 92 Parker points awarded to Pétalos del Bierzo 2011, one of our favourites wines due to its exceptional value for money.

And in the vein of the best wines according to their value for money, you cannot miss Tilenus Crianza 2006, a fleshy and elegant Mencía for only 10€, awarded with 92 Parker points.
