Characteristics of Barranc dels Comellars

Barranc dels Comellars is a red wine from Penedès prepared by Mas Igneus.

The winery, founded in 1996, is located in Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat (Tarragona) and is known for its organic winemaking, which excludes any chemical-synthetic product such as herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers.

Barranc dels Comellars is made from Grenache Noir (80%) and Carignan (20%) from 30-year old vines planted on terraces.

The development of Barranc dels Comellars begins with a harvest in early October and subsequent transportation of the grapes to the winery in 20kg boxes. Once in the winery a second table selection is made.

Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26 ° C for 25 days. The wine is then aged for 3 months in French oak barrels from Allier.

To preserve its character, it is bottled without cold stabilization.

Tasting notes Barranc dels Comellars

Sight Cherry-trimmed ruby red. Bright and intense. Nose Initially presented as very intense and expressive. The fruit and toasted memories arrive with force. Balsamic notes. After a while, we are left with spices, liquorice and minerality. Taste Very tasty, good entry and travel. Slight acidity. Sweet and powerful tannins. Persistent finish with a fruity and vanilla aftertaste. A wine that leaves a pleasant sweet memory.

Winery Mas Igneus

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
