Characteristics of Abadia de Poblet

Abadia de Poble is a D.O. Conca de Barberà red wine by Abadía de Poblet.
A very elegant expression of Pinot Noir. The process unfolds in the majestic Poblet monastery, from the cultivation of the vines to the resting period in the winery, built at the beginning of the 19th Century with elements of 15th Century architecture.
It ferments and ages in French oak, 225 litre barrels for 12 months. It rests for a minimum of six months before being put on the market.
Alcohol: 14.0%
Serve at 16ºC

Tasting notes Abadia de Poblet

Sight Intense and very bright cherry red colour with violet refletions. Clean wine with a high robe and elegant tears that stain the glass slightly. Nose Deep, intense and complex aromas with a strong varietal expression. Before swirling the glass, fleshy notes of ripe red fruit are noticed along with a refreshing citrus hint and a preview of its wide range of spices. When it opens up, the aromas become more intense and expressive. A great and serious minerality also appears along with some toasted notes and some hints of Mediterranean herbs. The whole aromatic set is wrapped in floral aromas of violets. Taste A wine from Conca de Barbera that will surprise us with one of the best and most elegant expressions of the variety Pinot Noir. It has an embracing attack which gives way to a long, very tasty and fleshy mid palate, with the same serious and balanced aromas found in the nose, with fruit wrapped in a good creaminess and flowers and a large mineral background. Soft, velvety wine with an excellent acidity and an outstanding freshness. Well integrated tannins. Long and intense finish with a great persistence.  An enjoyable wine that will leave good final aromas. Perfect for the lovers of this French variety.

Nose High intensity and complex aromas with a great load of fruit. Its abundant of notes of fresh black fruit are mixed with some spicy notes. When it opens up, the wine gains in intensity and expressivity and the aromas of vanilla appear along with the elegant toasted notes and a powerful minerality. In the background, light and subtle floral aromas are noticed.
Taste Very elegant, serious, and at the same time, soft and easy-drinking wine. It has a wide attack and coats the mouth with notes of fruit and toasted aromas. Cocoa flavours appear later along with subtle smoked hints. Velvety wine, with well integrated tannins. Its long and lingering finish leaves good toasted aromas. A wine to be enjoyed, which will leave good final sensations.
Sight Cherry red colour with garnet trims. Clean and bright.
Nose This wine has a great aromatic intensity. At the beginning, very fresh and ripe fruit (orange, berries) is noticed. Once the wine is swirled in the glass, the notes provided by the oak (nutmeg and vanilla) appear along with interesting mineral notes provided by the slate soil and slight floral hints. Taste This wine from Conca de Barbera has a fresh and comprehensive attack and a silky and dry mid palate (with no astringency). The fruit noticed is riper than the one of the notes found in the nose. The hints of wood perceived in the mouth are noticed again with a touch of chocolate. Integrated tannins. Long and persistent finish.
Sight Clear, bright, medium intensity. Red tile meniscus. Nose Came especially delicate. Predominate fresh red fruit aromas, combined with smoky oak and spice with a slight floral scent characteristic of Pinot Noir, which we perceive as the wine is opened. Taste Elegant entryt, delicate step in the mouth and slightly tannic final remarkable persistence.

Winery Abadía de Poblet

As with many other Catalonian wine regions, the DO. Conca de Barberà is developing its own territorial identity that over the years has been redefining the personality of the wines and the region, with the help of the red Trepat grape variety. The Trepat grape can be used to produce good sparkling rosés, rosés with character, fresh red wines, as well as elegant blanc de noirs. In just a few years the region and this grape variety have shown their potential, their versatility, and the possibility of carrying out R&D (Research and Development) with them. There are still few wineries who produce single variety wines using the grape, but most importantly is that all of them have become aware of the obligation to enhance the uniqueness that defines its territory and the new style of wine to be imposed in the twenty-first century.
